Lincoln Heights

Lincoln Heights is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Los Angeles, dating to the 1880s. Perched on bluffs above the Los Angeles River, it was originally home to some of the city's wealthiest residents, who built a large number of Victorian mansions in the district (many of which have been preserved under the city's historic preservation program). Today, residential housing options are as diverse as the people who live here.  From wonderful older single family homes that range in affordable price ranges to larger old mansion type homes ranging in price to upper expensive are all available to purchase and for rent.

Early in the 20th century however, the rapid industrial development along the Los Angeles river made the area less appealing for wealthier Angelenos, who had already begun to move on to other newer, developing areas like the beautiful Arroyo Seco and to Hollywood and eventually to the rapidly developing Mid Wilshire area.  As wealthy residents departed, Lincoln Heights became home to a large Italian American population, as well as an increasingly large Mexican American population.

Lincoln Heights has, in the last decades, been a poor-to-working class Chicano and Latin American immigrant barrio. However, many ethnic Asian immigrants from Vietnam and South East Asia, and their US-born children also reside in Lincoln Heights, due to its proximity to Chinatown. The residents here are warm and welcoming and proud of their communities history and contribution to the Los Angeles scene.There is a pride of ownership in Lincoln Heights and everyone here is confident in the future of Lincoln Heights.
